Professional Summary

DR Rajiv Kant joined the department of Department of Molecular and Cellular Engineering, Jacob School of Biotechnology and Bioengineering, in 2015 as Associate Professor. He has completed Master of Science in Biotechnology in 1989, was awarded Doctor of Philosophy in 1996 from All India Institute of Medical Sciences. He is currently teaching and guiding under-graduate, postgraduate and Doctoral students for their project work/dissertation/thesis. He was awarded with junior merit scholarship during master’s degree by DBT. DR Rajiv Kant has qualified NET (UGC/CSIR) thrice, and was awarded with Junior and Senior Research fellowships during Doctoral Studies by UGC. Dr Rajiv has also served as Post Doctoral Fellow at Bar Ilan University, Israel; Michigan State University, USA, and University of Michigan, USA. He was a recipient of Post Doctoral Fellowship awarded by Department of Defence, USA. He has also served in pharmaceutical industry (Ranbaxy Research Laboratories), as Group leader for six years. He has also worked as Professor of Biotechnology at Karunya University, Coimbatore, India from 2011 to 2013. Currently, he has twenty one publications including two patents and seven gene bank submissions. He has also participated in national and international conferences


Expertise

I have long experience in the area of molecular and cellular biology. I have worked in the area of molecular endocrinology, molecular parasitology, developmental biology, cancer biology, basic nephrology and drug discovery. Post Ph. D. I have about 17 years of research experience both in academic institutions and industry. I have 4 years of teaching experience, teaching undergraduate and post graduate classes. Courses that I have taught are like Basics of Molecular Genetics, Gene Cloning and Gene therapy, Recombinant DNA technology, Introduction to Animal Biotechnology, Molecular Genetics, Animal tissue culture, Immunology and Medical Biotechnology etc. Most of my research experience is in the wet lab but I also have experince in the area of bioinformatics and admininstration.
