Developed Five high yielding new Rice varieties suited for rice-wheat cropping system in north-eastern plain zone of Uttar Pradesh as Assistant Breeder under supervision of Prof. Dr. Suresh B. G. It has been approved by the State-level Seed Sub-Committee and notified in 2014, 2016 and 2017 by Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare (Govt. of India) as part of its initiative to prevent decline in the area under paddy cultivation.

RESEARCH (Crop Varieties Developed in Rice):
SHIATS DHAN- 1, high yielding (5.0-5.5 t/ha), semi tall and matures 130 days with medium slender with fine grain quality, non-lodging and non-shattering habit of grains optimistic that the rice from the new variety can be sold for a premium by showcasing. It has 9.5% protein whereas other rice varieties contain 7.1% protein. Head Rice Recovery (HRR) was 67 percent with good cooking and eating quality, moderately resistant to blast, sheath blight, bacterial leaf blight and tungro virus. SHIATS DHAN -1 become popular amongst the farmers and become part of the seed chain programme through Department of Agriculture and Cooperation (DAC), Govt. of India.
SHIATS DHAN-2 as the new variety can be harvested after 125 days of sowing, it is a medium-term paddy that can be grown when there is a delay in the onset of monsoon, semi tall, sturdy stem. The yield potential is 5 -6 t/ha, long bold seeds, moderately resistant to bacterial leaf blight and pests.
SHIATS DHAN-3, a long slender with fine grains mature in 125 days from seed to seed yield non shattering grains, higher yield 4.5 t/ha. It is moderately resistant to brown spot and neck blast and tolerance to insects and pest. It became popular amongst the farmers because of fine grains and early maturity and become part of the seed chain programme through Department of Agriculture and Cooperation (Govt. of India).
The other two varieties of paddy, SHIATS DHAN-4 and SHIATS DHAN-5 mature in 135 days have been recommended for irrigated condition, timely sown condition. 15 June is right time to raise rice nursery and harvest 6.0 t/ha yield. Medium slender grains with good cooking quality. It became part of the Seed Chain Programme. SHIATS DHAN -5 is early mature rice variety, long slender grains with sturdy stem, non-lodging, moderately resistant to blast, brown spot diseases, suited to Rice – Wheat timely sown condition.
