Professional Summary

Dr. Vijay Tripathi joined the Department of Molecular and Cellular Engineering, Jacob Institute of Biotechnology and Bioengineering, in January 2017 as an Assistant Professor. Dr Tripathi is an environmental biotechnologist cum bioinformatician to answer questions related to the dissemination of antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) and antibiotic-resistance genes (ARGs) in the anthropogenic environment using culturable and unculturable techniques.

Before that, he was a visiting Scientist in the Department of Soil, Water, and Environmental Science, Agricultural Research Organization, Israel and worked on detecting and characterising Integron-associated ARB  and ARGs in different European wastewater treatment plants. He also worked with Prof. Edward Trifonov (founder of Israeli bioinformatics) as a post-doctoral fellow at the Institute of Evolution, University of Haifa, Israel. He discovered and coined the universal visible pattern of strong nucleosomes and characterized these patterns in many species, including bacteria, plants and animals. Dr. Tripathi started his research career as a doctoral student under the supervision of Prof. Dwijendra K. Gupta at the Center of Bioinformatics, University of Allahabad, India. There, he worked in isolating and purifying lysosomal membrane protein using double nano-tagged IgY antibodies. During his doctoral thesis project, he was also awarded a prestigious MUIR fellowship and visited the University of Cagliari, Italy, for 01 year. Previous to this, he completed his M. Sc. in Bioinformatics from A.P.S. University, Madhya Pradesh, India, in 2007 and B. Tech in Biotechnology (Genetic Engineering.) from Allahabad Agricultural Institute-Deemed University, Allahabad, in 2005.
