Professional Summary
Er. Chitra Sonkar has acquired her graduation in B.Tech in Biotechnology (Genetic Engineering) in the year 2006 and post-graduation degree in M.Tech (Agricultural Engineering) with specialization in Agricultural Process and Food Engineering from Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, Allahabad in 2006-2008. Er.Chitra joined the Department of Food Process Engineering as an Assistant Professor on 28th January,2010. She has been actively involved in teaching, research and extension work for the past eleven years. The paper presented by her on her M.Tech dissertation was awarded the best paper presented by HBTI,Kanpur. Er.Chitra has a diploma in Bioinformatics and is a member of “Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India)”. She has a passion for organizing seminars, workshops and training programs for students and is actively involved in the documentations regarding newsletters and annual reports of the department. She is also actively involved departmental society activities as a staff advisor. Her main research accomplishments are in the area of novel food processing and preservation technologies. She is particularly interested in the investigation of technological aspects (nutritional, microbial and qualitative phenomena) in thermal processing studies. Her teaching interests include meat and poultry products technology, thermal & non thermal food processing techniques, baking and confectionery technology and functional/nutraceutical foods.

Er. Chitra has been actively involved in teaching, research and extension work for the past eleven years. She has been teaching “baking and confectionery technology”,” processing technology of milk and milk products”, “functional foods” and “food preservation” for past several years. Chitra has undertaken research based on drying and dehydration, thermal processing and food fortification. She has presented papers and posters in various conferences including Genesis, HBTI, 13th March,2011 where her paper on “Dehydration of Vacuum Dried Garlic” won her best paper presentation award. She has also delivered invited lectures as a resource speaker in other institutions. She is the staff advisor of “Society of Food Engineers and Technologists” Dept. of Food Process Engineering, SHUATS, Prayagraj. Chitra has also undergone training in bakery processing from CFTRI, Mysore and orientation program from University of Allahabad.
